In Australia, a notifiable data breach (NDB) system began on February 22, 2018, and it applies to qualifying data breaches that occur on or after that date. If there is a data breach that is likely to result in serious harm to any individual to whom the information relates, the NDB scheme requires us to notify individuals and the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner. This occurs when personal information is lost or subjected to unauthorized access or disclosure. Some data breaches are exempt from the NDB program.
